The Anthrax Attack

The "second wave" of bin Laden's terrorist attack against the United States has already taken place, and it failed. That is not a proveable conclusion, but I think it is likely.

Soon after the Septemeber 11 terrorist attacks, the U.S. government announced that it had received credible evidence that a second wave of terrorism was imminent. Since then, the U.S. has been waiting "for the other shoe to drop." There have been reports of other events that could be related. On September 21, ten days after the U.S. attacks, a petrochemical plant in Toulouse France suffered an explosion that killed 29 people, injured several thousand, and destroyed numerous buildings. A warehouse that contained 300 tons of ammonium nitrate fertilizer is now a 150-foot-wide crater, surrounded by debris. A tie to the U.S. attacks is suspected, but the evidence is all circumstantial. I will argue that the second wave of attacks is already past. The reason that no one in the Federal Government will say this is that it would be imprudent. Little can be accomplished by telling people that the worst is over. It is better for them to remain vigilant. And this is probably good policy. However, it does not preclude asking for the truth, however imprudent stating that truth might be.

Could the anthrax be domestic terrorism, unrelated to bin Laden? Proximity to sites in Florida and New Jersey may be a coincidence?
